The School of Kinesiology Graduate Wire - April 15, 2020

Summer Courses

May session and Summer 13-week classes are scheduled to be delivered online, and will start on May 18. Please register ASAP for any courses you plan to take during the summer term.

If you have any questions about the summer session, please reach out to the DGS office, through Nina Wang, Graduate Program Coordinator via email or an online appointment.

Fall Registration

Fall registration began April 9, please remember to register for your Fall schedule as soon as possible. Registering for your fall schedule sooner rather than later will help ensure your successful admittance into the courses needed for your degree program.

The University has announced that they are prepared and excited to welcome students (and the entire University family) back to campus for learning and events for the 2020-21 academic year. However, given the quickly changing nature of this pandemic, they are simultaneously considering high-quality and engaging ways to offer a world-class education and experience if a return to campuses in the fall is not possible—with several alternatives in between. Their decision regarding this will be made in June.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your degree progress, please reach out to the DGS office, through Nina Wang, Graduate Program Coordinator via email or an online appointment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Zoom Security/Privacy Software Update

A significant update to your Zoom software either has been installed or will be soon. Please refer to this information about how to secure your Zoom meetings and address class disruptions using your newly updated Zoom.

  • If you are a host or co-host, a “Security” button will appear in the dock at the
    bottom of the meeting screen.
  • Meeting via Web Client is no longer available, though the U is evaluating whether to turn that back on;
  • “Only Authenticated users can join” is now available from within Canvas;
  • The meeting ID has been removed from the title bar (it can be found by clicking on the info icon at the top left of the client window or by clicking “Participants,” then “Invite”);
  • The button to invite others to join your meeting is now at the bottom of the “Participants” panel; and
  • You can now enable Waiting Room during a meeting, even if the feature was turned off before the start of the meeting.

FINANCIAL AID

Emergency Fund for Graduate and Professional Students

The Graduate School and Provost’s Office, in partnership with many colleges and departments, have created an emergency fund for graduate and professional students. The types of things students may need help with include, but are not limited to: assistance with food/rent, temporary housing, space to self-quarantine, loss of job/income, and technology equipment support (laptops, WiFi, etc.).

The goal of the program is to get you the relief you need as quickly as we can. Students needing emergency financial assistance should email One Stop and use the subject line “COVID-19 Emergency Fund Request.”

Remember to check the University COVID site and the Grad School FAQ site periodically. The Graduate School is posting information there in order to keep the email traffic to a minimum. If you have questions or concerns not answered by these sites, please don't hesitate to let the Graduate School know.
